Recently, a Saratoga tournament player approached our Head Golf Pro, Lee Hanley, about our golf team. Upon learning more about our players, the tournament player, Ed Sterba, inquired as to what Hanley and the team were in need of, if anything. Since one of the players was currently unable to afford his own clubs, that was the first thing to come to Hanley’s mind.
Sterba then, in a great act of generosity and kindness, made a donation to the team so that a whole set of clubs could be purchased for the player in need. Upon thanking Sterba, Hanley and the recently gifted teammate learned more about what had driven Sterba to such a wonderful gesture.
A few years ago, Sterba’s son passed away. Apparently, his son loved visiting Saratoga Resort and Spa, so much that it inspired Sterba to make a donation in his honor. Not only that, but Sterba also went on to explain how he wanted to set up a fund for our golf team, rewarding the best male and female players in overall sportsmanship and play at the end of each season with a $100 gift, all in his son’s name.
We would like to send a huge thank you to the Sterba family for helping our player in need, and establishing such an honorable trust for our team.
